What Is A Chaffle?

A chaffle is a low carb and keto friendly waffle made with two basic ingredients cheese and eggs. The combination of these two ingredients create a delicious, fluffy and crispy waffle that can be used in place of bread as they make a great sandwich bread. The shredded cheese gets nice and crispy in the waffle maker.

What Type Of Cheese Is Used In Chaffles?

The most popular cheese used in chaffles is mozzarella, however you can really use any type of shredded cheese. Cheddar cheese, Colby Jack cheese, Parmesan cheese and even cream cheese work great! If you want to make a sweet Chaffle recipe, mozzarella cheese has a mild flavor making it one of our top picks for sweet Chaffles.

Does A Chaffle Taste Like Eggs?

Chaffles do have an eggy taste, however they are not as eggy as a quiche or omelette. The cheese helps to balance out the egg flavor. If you are not a fan of eggs, we would recommend trying our easy 90 second keto bread recipe here.

The best chaffle results will be to pick the flavors you enjoy the best. Experiment with seasoning and flavors like cinnamon, salt and pepper, herbs, garlic powder to find your favorite combination.

You can also use just egg whites to reduce the taste of eggs if thats what you prefer.

What Are The Best Keto Chaffle Mix-Ins?

There are endless possibilities when it comes to mix-ins for your keto chaffle. Here are some of our favorites:

  • sausage
  • bacon
  • ham
  • spinach
  • onions
  • peppers
  • cheese
  • chives

Whatever you would normally put in an omelette or quiche would be great in a chaffle.

To make sweet chaffles you can add some keto-friendly fruit to your batter like blueberries or strawberries. You can also add some Lily’s chocolate chips or vanilla extract to sweeten up your chaffles and make some chocolate chip chaffles.

To make your chaffles lighter, add a teaspoon of coconut flour or a tablespoon of almond flour to the egg mixture.

For extra fluffy chaffles ad 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and a pinch of salt.

What Are Keto Chaffles?

Keto chaffles are simply a variation of the traditional chaffle recipe that uses keto-friendly ingredients. These are often referred to as egg waffles. A traditional chaffle is made with eggs, cheese, and wheat flour, while a keto chaffle is made with almond flour or coconut flour, instead of wheat flour. Mini chaffles look just like mini waffles or if you prefer a larger portion a regular chaffle will look similar to a traditional waffle.

How To Make Crispy Keto Chaffles?

Keto Mini Waffles Recipes

To make nice crispy keto chaffles you will want to use a mini waffle iron like the dash I mentioned above. The smaller the size the faster it will cook and it will crisp up nicely. Chaffles cook in about 2-3 minutes but for crispy chaffles let them cook for about 4 minutes so they are nice and golden brown.

If they are soft when you remove it from the waffle maker it will crisp up a bit when it starts to cool. Another way to make a chaffle crispy is to add some extra cheese on top about half way through cooking. The cheese will get crisp making them extra crispy.

What are some keto chaffle main ingredients?

Some of the main ingredients in a keto chaffle include eggs, cheese, almond flour or coconut flour, baking powder, and butter. You can also add in other flavors such as vanilla extract, cinnamon, or even sugar-free chocolate chips.

How To Serve Chaffles?

Keto Mini Chaffle Recipes

There are so many ways to serve chaffles. One of the favorite ways they are served is for breakfast but they can be served any time of day.

Breakfast – Make a bacon egg breakfast sandwich with two mini keto chaffles.

Lunch – Make a classic keto BLT chaffle sandwich. Instead of bread use two mini keto chaffles.

Dinner – Serve these mini keto chaffles instead of garlic bread which can be used on the side of some Meatballs and Zucchini noodles and with our added keto spaghetti spices. Use these mini chaffles as a mini pizza crust or will also work as a hamburger bun.

How To Store and Freeze Chaffles?

Chaffles can be stored in a sealed bag or an airtight container for up to two days. If you want to freeze them, place them in a freezer bag or container and they will last for up to two months.

To reheat your chaffles place them in a toaster oven or an air fryer for a couple of minutes. These heating methods will keep your chaffles crispy.
