Ingredients
Pork Rinds – I prefer to use pork rinds in my Keto Beef Burgers because they have lower carbs than almond flour, however, almond flour is still a great low carb option to use instead of the pork rinds.
Low Carb BBQ Sauce – Yummm I LOVE barbecue sauce! It’s my favourite thing to load up onto my Keto buns when it comes to burgers. This Low Carb BBQ Sauce is super easy to make a crazy delicious! If you don’t have any, and don’t feel like making some, the bbq sauce can be replaced with no sugar added ketchup.
How to make Grilled Keto Burgers
Let’s get that barbecue fired up to 375° so that it can preheat while the patties are being made.
Crush the pork rinds into a fine crumb using your fingers, smashing them with a rolling pin or sending them for a blitz in the food processor. You don’t need much so I usually do it with my hands. Crush enough pork rinds so that you have 1/2 cup firmly packed, about 35 grams.
Dump the crushed pork rinds into a large bowl and then grate half of a small onion over top of the pork rinds. ( I find it easier to use a whole onion and just grate half of it, that way a.) you have a handle and b.) it just grates SO much easier this way. )
Mix the onion into the pork rinds until fully combined. Mince the garlic finely or press it through a garlic press, then add it to the onion mixture along with the bbq sauce, worcestershire, dijon, salt, pepper, the egg and mix well.
Knead in the ground beef until JUST combined, then divide the beef into 4 portions and shape each into a round patty, about an inch thick.
Toss the patties onto the barbecue, out of direct flame, and grill for about 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway, until the internal temperature has reached 165°.
Expert Tips
- We shred the onion into the pork rinds (or almond flour) to soak up all that yummy onion juice. This process makes our Keto Beef Burgers that much more juicer, as well as saves a big step by not having to dice and fry the onion beforehand.
- Avoid over mixing the ground beef into the other ingredients. The more it is worked, the tougher the patties will be. We want beautiful, juicy Keto Hamburgers, not dense bricks of meat!
- Enjoy your Keto Burgers straight up, wrap some leaf lettuce around it for a lighter meal, or use of these Keto Breads to hold it all together: 90 Second Keto Bread, Keto Chaffles or Low Carb Onion Buns.
