Okay so I love cheese… like, really love cheese. It’s kind of funny because my maiden name means ‘cheese maker’ in French! So here I am, continuing with family tradition, as the ‘Keto Cheese Sauce Maker’! That counts… right?
This Keto Cheese Sauce has, no doubt, become my best friend. It is loaded with rich, creamy flavour and is very simple to make! I love all the different ways you can use this sauce, whether it be dipping, smothering or used as a sauce!
You know what’s cool about heavy cream besides how delicious it is? When simmered it actually thickens quite quickly! This Keto Cheese Sauce doesn’t use flour or cornstarch to thicken, instead, it is created by simmering butter, heavy cream and some spices!
How to make Keto Cheese Sauce
Melt butter in a small saucepan on medium heat. Add garlic, salt, pepper, dijon and whisk. Slowly add in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes, whisking often to prevent burning.
Mix in the shredded cheese and cook just until the cheese has melted. Refrigerate any leftovers.
How to reheat leftover Keto Cheese Sauce
Once the sauce has been refrigerated it becomes very hard. To reuse it, scrape the sauce into a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 20 seconds. The sauce will have separated. Whisk until the two layers finally come together – this may take a little while, but trust me, the sauce will become deliciously smooth once again!
If the sauce has become too thick, whisk in a little bit of heavy cream until you have the desired consistency. I would add just 1/2 tsp at a time; you don’t want to add too much!
Alternately you can do the same in a small sauce pan. Scrape how much leftover sauce you would like into a small saucepan and heat on medium until melted. Whisk until fully combined and add heavy cream if the sauce is too thick.

Keto Cheese Sauce – Perfect for all your Dipping, Smothering and Saucy needs!
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/8 tsp sea salt
- dash black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup packed aged white cheddar cheese
- Small Saucepan
- On medium heat melt butter in a small saucepan. Whisk in the salt, pepper, garlic powder and dijon. Once combined, slowly whisk in the heavy cream.
- Bring to a gently simmer and cook for 15 minutes, whisking often to prevent the sauce from burning. Mix in the melted cheese until fully melted and serve hot!
