Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

Equipment Needed

Directions

  • Heat oven to 425° and spray the cake pans with spray oil. In a medium mixing bowl combine the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar, grated cheddar cheese and mix. Cut the butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter until the dough resembles course crumbles.
  • Pour in the milk and using a fork, mix until the dough just starts to come together. Knead the dough 16-20 times, until the dough is mostly formed. I like a rustic look and the less you knead it, the more pastry-like the biscuits will be. The more you knead the dough, the more like buns they become.
  • Using your hands, push the dough out onto a floured surface until it is roughly 1/2" thick. Again, I use my hands rather than a rolling pin for the rustic look and texture. Use a 3" round cookie cutter to cut out the biscuits and space them evenly onto the greased pans. Continue to reform the dough and cut out biscuits until you have as many biscuits as you can get. I usually get around 10.
  • Bake at 425° for 15-20 minutes. Serve hot with butter or just by themselves. Yum!
