Teriyaki is definitely my flavour of choice when it comes to sauce. I absolutely love teriyaki chicken wings, teriyaki stir fry, teriyaki chow mien, teriyaki fried rice, teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, teriyaki salmon.. okay I’ll stop here before I start to sound like Forest Gump…

I make a homemade teriyaki sauce that is SOOO GOOD!!! The problem? Brown sugar sweetens the sauce and cornstarch thickens it. So, I decided to made my very own sugar free teriyaki sauce!

Why it works

  1. This yummy Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce is sweetened with lakanto’s golden monk fruit, and is thickened with xanthan gum. You can skip the xanthan gum if it’s a marinade you’re after.
  2. It’s fast and easy! Make this Keto Teriyaki Sauce in under 20 minutes.
  3. The flavours combine to make a Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce or Marinade that is absolutely delicious!

Keto Teriyaki Sauce ingredients

  • soy sauce
  • water
  • apple cider vinegar
  • brown sugar replacement
  • sesame oil
  • ginger
  • garlic
  • sesame seeds
  • xanthan gum

SweetenerSukrin Gold sweetener is a great brown sugar replacement, but my new favourite is Lakanto’s Golden Monk Fruit sweetener! I find the Lakanto sweetener tastes just a little bit better than the Sukrin Gold.

How to make Low Carb Teriyaki Sauce

Don’t need your sauce thickened? Combine all ingredients, except the xanthan gum, in a small saucepan, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes. That’s it!

Is it a thick sauce you’re after? Combine all ingredients except the sesame oil and xanthan gum. Whisk to combine, bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes.

Whisk the xanthan gum into the sesame oil, then whisk into the simmering sauce. Continue to mix for about 1 minute, until the sauce has thickened.

Perfect for chicken, salmon or beef, this Low Carb Teriyaki Sauce and Marinade is simple, easy and absolutely delicious!

Meals with low carb teriyaki sauce

The list is endless when it comes to what to do with this low carb teriyaki sauce and marinade recipe! Here are my favourites:

Chicken wings with low carb teriyaki sauce – Cook your wings until crispy then pour in the teriyaki sauce and toss. I love to use my air fryer to get the wings ultra crisp, but you can always bake or barbecue them if you prefer!

Drumsticks marinated in low carb teriyaki sauce – Marinate raw drumsticks over night with this teriyaki marinade before barbecuing or baking.

Teriyaki salmon – Bake salmon with this teriyaki glaze; brush on a couple of times during the baking period.

Stir fry with teriyaki sauce – Add this teriyaki sauce to the stir fry a couple of minutes before your stir fry has finished cooking like in this Low Carb Zucchini Noodle Stir Fry.

Teriyaki chicken with steamed broccoli – One of my favourite slow cooker meals. Sear chicken breasts or thighs in a hot skillet for a couple of minutes, add to the slow cooker and pour in the teriyaki sauce. Cook on low for 5-6 hours. Serve over a bed of steamed broccoli.

Keto Teriyaki Chicken – Ready in under 30 minutes, this Keto Teriyaki Chicken features a sugar free teriyaki sauce, chicken thighs and broccoli, making it a great weekday meal!

    1. Such a good recipe! I used half coconut aminos and half soy (since I ran out of soy sauce), doubled the ginger and garlic (fresh is soooo much better than powdered, for sure!), and added some red chili flakes to be extra and yum! Thank you for sharing this.

      • Hey Kris! Thanks for letting me know, I am so glad you enjoyed it! Once you go fresh garlic and ginger, there really is no going back, is there? I always keep fresh ginger on hand just in case I have a teriyaki crave 😆

I’d like to try the soy sauce you mentioned but can’t find it near me or on the internet. Do you have a link?

Teriyaki is my favorite sauce for marinade. It’s so flavorful and it makes meat look so delicious. I love that you used fresh ginger – most people use powder, which is not nearly good as fresh one. Great recipe!
