Keto Egg Roll in a Bowl (15 Minutes, 6g Net Carbs)

This keto egg roll in a bowl gives you all the savory garlic-ginger flavor of a takeout egg roll in just 15 minutes, with 6g net carbs per serving and only one pan to wash. It skips the fried wrapper entirely – the part with nearly all the carbs – and keeps everything you actually crave.

Why This Recipe Works

Egg rolls get their flavor from the filling, not the wrapper. Browning the pork hard in sesame oil builds a savory base, and a quick toss with coleslaw mix means the cabbage stays slightly crunchy instead of soggy. Coconut aminos (or soy sauce) plus rice vinegar recreates that classic takeout tang without added sugar.

It’s also one of the most forgiving keto dinners you can make. Ground turkey or chicken swaps in cleanly for pork, and the whole dish reheats beautifully, which makes it a favorite for weekly meal prep alongside our Keto Garlic Butter Shrimp Skillet.

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

Ground pork is traditional and adds richness, but ground turkey, chicken, or beef all work. Coleslaw mix is the shortcut hero here – a 14-oz bag replaces shredding a head of cabbage, and the small amount of carrot in it is fine for keto at this portion. Coconut aminos keeps it soy-free and slightly sweeter; regular soy sauce or tamari works too. If you like heat, sriracha or a spoonful of chili garlic sauce finishes it perfectly.

How to Serve It

It’s a complete meal on its own, but a drizzle of spicy mayo takes it over the top. For a bigger spread, pair it with Cauliflower Fried Rice or start with a few Keto Mozzarella Sticks.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil divided
  • 1 lb ground pork or ground turkey/chicken
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 14-oz bag coleslaw mix about 4 cups shredded cabbage and carrots
  • 3 tbsp coconut aminos or soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar unseasoned
  • 3 green onions sliced, whites and greens separated
  • 1 tsp sriracha optional, to taste
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Heat half the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground pork and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Push the pork to one side, add the remaining sesame oil, and saute the garlic, ginger, and white parts of the green onions for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the coleslaw mix, coconut aminos, and rice vinegar. Toss everything together and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the cabbage is wilted but still has a slight crunch.
  5. Stir in the sriracha if using. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  6. Serve topped with the green parts of the green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat. For extra richness, drizzle with a little spicy mayo (mayo + sriracha) before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many carbs are in egg roll in a bowl?

This keto egg roll in a bowl has 8g total carbs and 6g net carbs per serving. A traditional fried egg roll has 20-25g carbs, almost all from the wheat wrapper, so skipping the wrapper removes most of the carbs while keeping the flavor.

Can I make egg roll in a bowl ahead of time?

Yes. It keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheats well in a skillet over medium heat. The cabbage softens slightly as it sits but the flavor actually improves overnight.

Is coleslaw mix keto friendly?

Yes. A full 14-oz bag of coleslaw mix has roughly 20g net carbs, which spread across 4 servings is about 5g per portion. The small amount of shredded carrot in the mix is not enough to affect ketosis at this serving size.

What can I use instead of ground pork?

Ground turkey, chicken, or beef all substitute one-for-one. For a vegetarian version, use crumbled extra-firm tofu and add an extra tablespoon of sesame oil for richness.
